Minnesota State Fair 2008

These were our goals for the fair this year:

  • Bike some
  • Spend enough time at the fair so we feel we got our monies worth (not sure how long that is)
  • Eat (corndog, cheese curds, Sweet Martha cookies/milk, maybe something new)
  • Take Kaelem to see animals
  • Buy Iowa jelly
  • Let Kaelem get a nap in at some point.

Except for the Iowa jelly, we managed to do all of these and more with the Kelm’s even with a rainy weather forecast. Kaelem made it through the whole day with only a 45 minute nap (thanks to someone’s screaming kid who woke him up prematurely). He rode his first ride, the carousel, but didn’t like it at all. He did love the four chocolate chip cookies he gobbled down. Of the animals, I think he liked the ducks the best because he knows how to quack. He also got to pet a bunny rabbit.

My favorite was the L’Oreal Studio tent. Katie and I painted our nails, scored some free hair product samples, and after a three hour wait- received free mini-makeovers. Jed says his favorite was the art gallery, specially the “Honesty” display that one first prize. The artist rolled $1 bills and placed them in a grid to form the word “honesty”.

As for eats, we had frozen grapes, bowl of fruit (we had just biked an hour and cheese curds just sounded gross- although the Kelm’s were able to swallow that and a fudge pup!) hotdog/corndog, 2 cokes, 1 rootbeer, malt, cookies and milk, turkey leg. The grossest thing we saw was spam curds, not on a stick. Next year will be our 5th anniversary at this fair, so we hafta hafta finally get the keylime pie on a stick!
