Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig
Actually, there’s not much jiggety-jigging going on here. We spent pretty much all day in bed. Jed woke up with some kind of crud and Kaelem and I were just recuperating from the weekend.
In summary, we spent Friday through Monday in Duluth with about 70 high schoolers. Accommodations were the Comfort Suites and the Hampton Inn overlooking Lake Superior. Attractions were the Omnimax and Aquarium. Activities were skiing, shopping, and skateboarding. There was also a 90′s themed party (hey Macarena!). The goal of this retreat was to get students to reflect on spiritual milestones and to learn from their older peers. Seven seniors shared personal stories about the changes made in their lives during their high school years.
In my favorite style of recapping, here’s a bullet list of our best and worst moments of the weekend.
Best moments:
-Sarah-
- Coffee with Michelle, Alora, and Danielle
- Swimming with Kaelem and the girls in the hotel pool
- Watching Kaelem have the time of his life at the 90′s party
-Jed-
- Making the playlist for the 90′s party on the drive up to Duluth
- Remembering all the words to Matisyahu’s, “King Without a Crown”
- Watching the seniors lead the Sunday evening prayer session
- Getting a good nights sleep in the guys room Sunday night
Worst moments:
-Sarah-
- Friday night trying to get a screaming baby consoled and asleep
- Saturday night trying to get a screaming baby consoled and asleep
- Sunday night trying to get a screaming baby consoled and asleep
- Pushing a stroller through slushy snowy sidewalks.
-Jed-
- Slipping on the icy road in the truck with trailer attached
- Forgetting to put the morning devotionals in the camp booklets
- Driving student with a broken collar bone to the ER after a skiing accident

Reason #47 that I don’t want to ski. Ever.
Otherwise, sounds like it was a blast! We are dealing post-retreat with a potential case of the mumps!!

That 90′s playlist on my ipod is the only thing I’ve listened to since coming back.
…my worst moment was, ironically, forgetting some of the guitar part to “King Without a Crown.”
