BCS: Wednesday, 8-16

22 August 2006 | Church,Jed and Sarah

Wednesday brought more work at the camp. We still had a lot of rocks to move, and another wall was discovered down by the pool. This wall was shorter than the other one, but also more challenging. It went down into the ground for two feet in places. The extruding rebar was definitely a hazard, and needed to be removed. Our guys took turns going full force with a sledgehammer and pickaxes. It took a couple hours to rip apart this wall that was only about ten feet long.

Meanwhile, the roofing team kept it up at the other end of camp. Their task was to chisel divots in the tops of the walls of the structure to make room for C-beams that would be the supports for the roof.

After work, we dipped into the pool again, had lunch, and did our Bible study. Then we headed back to the church.

This afternoon we took a break from working on the church. A woman from the church, Alejandro, came by to teach us some songs. Alejandro hopes to be the first missionary supported by the Mexican church, instead of by those in America. She is planning to go to the field in Thailand in about three years.

We were learning the songs so that we could help lead children the next day when we went out into the community. We now know such hits as “Yo Tengo Un Amigo”, “El Sapo” and “El Amor De Dios”. Feel free to put any and all team members on the spot to sing one to you in four part harmony.

Dinner that night was pasta with spaghetti sauce, I think. All I know is that it was good after a long day of pounding rocks.

During team time, more of the team was prompted to open up to discussion, so that those of us who are more expressive wouldn’t be the only ones talking. We also examined the quality of integrity, and why it is so crucial to good leadership.

Something that the students might not be aware of is that Frank and Angie procured for me, Sarah, Holly and Drew our favorite drinks each night after team time. Just another example of their thoughtfulness.

So after downing my caffeine-loaded Dr. Pepper, I was off to dreamland.
